CSS Layouts
Praxislösungen mit YAML 3.0

This book, currently available only in German, describes the various ways to produce modern, robust, and accessible CSS layouts. My co-author Dieter Bunkerd and I published it in December 2006 at the Galileo Computing publishing house.

In addition to the complete YAML framework documentation and numerous application examples, the book provides practice-oriented insight into the various modern layout techniques and delivers a full overview of all the important browser bugs.

Technical Consultant Jens Grochtdreis sums up:

I was impressed right from the beginning -- not just with the language, but with the density of information. I am convinced that all readers will immediately recognize the great practical value. The compact explanation of all the important IE bugs is a masterpiece in itself. Not that a visit to positioniseverything.net is now superfluous, but now the reader can better understand the problems, as they are described in clear, easy-to-follow German.

Critiques and Reader Reviews (1st Edition)

Alexandra Labudda writes:

Right off: I can only say wow, wow, wow! to this book. I've recently read several (very) good industry-specific books, but this one beats them all.

...

This book has not one sentence too many or too few. It is well-structured and written, the editing is excellent, and it makes it easy for the reader to understand all the basic connections between (X)HTML/CSS and browser bugs as well as their countermeasures. The target audience is professional front-end developers (both freelancers and in web agencies), as well as CSS aficionados who set up robust, standard-conform sites. It is not even important that it happen with YAML. I can strongly recommend CSS Layouts to anyone who would like to learn professional CSS solutions.

Folkert Groeneveld writes:

Finally a book that describes not only the basics for creating CSS based layouts and their tricks (or rather the tricks of the browsers), but also the CSS framework "YAML", invented by the author. Users of the Content Management System TYPO3 learn how to use the framework in TYPO3. All in easy-to-understand German. The user-friendly CD-ROM rounds out the impressive presentation. A must for web programmers and web designers.

Revew on Webmasterpro.de:

In sum: especially for beginners, a very well-done book, which describes the properties of CSS in detail. The content structure is excellent and follows a central theme throughout.

Tomas Caspers in the Aktion Mensch Newsletter :

The book "CSS-Layouts - Praxislösungen mit  YAML" by the inventor Dirk Jesse himself absolutely delighted us.
